Once a sleepy fishing village St Tropez has grown to become a vibrant and exciting destination on the beautiful Mediterranean coast of France. Hot summers and mild winters make this a year round place to visit and enjoy a taste of the glamorous and cosmopolitan town.

Watching and Shopping.

Cafes and bars are dotted along the quayside of the old port and become an ideal place to marvel at the super yachts lined up, Bar du Port, Café de Paris and Senequier to name just a few. Wandering through the side streets past the pastel painted buildings you will find no end of shops selling everything from jewellery to shoes, souvenirs and traditional Provencal textiles and pottery as well as some of fashions biggest and most iconic brands, Louis Vuitton, Dolce & Gabanna, Chanel and Hermes to name but a few. The well known Place des Lices is the central market square where traditional Provencal markets are held on Tuesdays and Saturdays and locals still play Petanque in the afternoons. Dotted around its edges are numerous cafes, restaurants and bars including the excellent Brasserie des Arts. One of the most popular restaurants in recent years is L’Opera, a very quirky but never the less great quality place located at one end of the port.

Pampelonne Beach

Pampelonne beach is located a sort drive South East of St Tropez town and port. One of the most famous beaches in the world it boasts 5 kilometres of golden sand and this is where you will find the world famous restaurants and beach clubs, one of the most notable being Le Club 55 which is very toes in the sand and plays no music but has a buzzing atmosphere. It is very child friendly and is one of the few beach clubs to have a jetty so guests can arrive by yacht tender. Pampelonne has a beach restaurant to suit everyone, from the party places such as Nikki Beach, Tahiti and Club Les Palmiers where there is live music and fashion shows during the day to really child friendly such as Plage des Jumeaux which has a children's play area on the beach. Whilst Pampelonne is mostly a day and early evening venue some restaurants stay open for dinner such as Cabane Bambou and there is even a nightclub, Stefano Forever. It is possible to rent comfortable sun loungers and beach towels from many of the clubs and there are several water sports companies.

There is nearly always something happening in the area. May sees the impressive “l’Europ des Harley”, a gathering of Harley Davidsons from around the continent that descends on the town and surrounding area. This is a spectacle to behold as the proud owners display their beautifully painted machines around town and on the Sunday combine to create a grand procession of these thundering beasts around the town and nearby villages. June has the famous Giraglia Rolex Cup sailing races and in July the streets are filled with Bastille Day parades and celebrations and in the early autumn some 300 yachts arrive to take part in Les Voiles de Saint Tropez sailing competition. October sees the famous “Braderie” where shopkeepers set up stalls on the streets and offer goods at large discounts and throughout the summer months the nearby Polo Club has many events.

Food and Drink.

Who cannot adore a large piece of Tarte Tropezienne, the luxurious local cake of brioche, cream and crystallised sugar, invented here in the 1950’s. St Tropez is surrounded by some of the best Provencal vineyards producing the famous rose so popular in summer as well as some good reds and whites, the more famous of these being Chateau de Pampelonne, Chateau Minuty and Domaine de la Rouillere. There is now even a beer, Blonde of St Tropez, which is produced by some old friends of ours as well as the very sweet but nonetheless very popular Ice Tropez.
